A rag bag of criminal misfits are given one last chance of redemption in the form of a suicide mission deep into German occupied territory. Much of the action takes place during the army's increasingly exasperated attempts to mould these 12 thugish rebels into an elite fighting force, which provides The Dirty Dozen with considerably more humour than is normally associated with such films. Brutal and bloody this is a classic of the genre.
