A hypnotised British detective, Fisher, recalls his last case pursuing the "Lotto Murderer", a killer of young female lottery ticket sellers, using a method suggested by his disgraced mentor, Osborne, which involves entering the killer's mind, and in which the line between solving and committing a crime becomes dangerously obscured. Set in a post-apocalyptic Northern Europe of the future, 'Element of Crime' was Lars Von Trier's feature length debut, surreal, intense and, frankly, confusing it's an intriguing film well suited for cinephiles.
