I'M GOING HOME (2001)
MANOEL DE OLIVERIA
Plot
A French essay on acting and aging I'm Going Home tells the story of Gilbert Valence, an aging theatre actor who's life is devastated by the sudden death of his wife, daughter and son-in-law leaving him to take care of his 9 year-old grandson. Turning down unsuitable television roles he is finally and (ultimately badly) cast in an American film of Ulysses. Malkovich plays the American filmmaker who miscasts him and has to handle the questions that Valence is grappling with in his life. Dry, witty, dignified and recommended.
