It's 1942; in a last ditch attempt to see some action, an embittered sergeant enlists the help of his eager, young, goofy, impressionable trainee to take leave of the British army and invade occupied France on their own. A simple yet wildly implausible tale, based on a true story...obviously, Two Men Went To War is a delightful comedy reminiscent of early Ealing, focusing as it does on the insane aberrations that can overtake otherwise ordinary folk. Witty, farcical, warm hearted and performed to perfection, a wee understated gem.
