A young Irish family move to the bubbling cauldron of humanity that is New York, but though full of wonderment and excited anticipation of their new home, they must first overcome the tragedy that drew them away from Ireland and which still haunts them. Directed by the man responsible for My Left Foot and In The Name Of The Father, In America is another remarkable drama which tugs at about every emotional heart string available while deftly avoiding the all too common trait of manipulative, tear-jerking/ feel good schmaltz that normally dogs this genre of film.
