Joe Simpson and Simon Yates were two mates who shared the same passion, unassisted extreme climbing, and on the west face of Siula Grande, Peru, they found the ultimate test for their skill and endurance. The ascent was not without incident but it was the return to base camp that went horribly wrong, leaving one of the men facing a seemingly impossible journey to salvation. Touching the Void, a mixture of top class dramatic reconstruction and talking head documentary, is based on Joe Simpson's book of the extraordinary events that took place in May 1985. Simpson's will to survive defies belief, driven as he was by a singular bloody-minded determination to live which is inspiring, moving and hypnotic. The DVD contains some excellent extras, particularly as in what happened next.
