MONKEY DUST: SERIES ONE (2003)
SUSAN DEAKINSTEVE MAY
Plot
Cutting edge British animation with a very dark sense of humour, depicting a warped vision of our grimy society. Set mostly in anonymous cityscapes, the show features recurring characters battling against the odds to lead their depraved, vice-ridden lives in peace. These include a chat-room paedophile and his attempts to meet up with his online friends; a cripplingly shy homosexual and his futile forays into cottaging; a divorced dad whose efforts at getting on with his estranged son invariably lead to his suicide; a brilliant portrait of a notorious Geordie serial killer (only he never dun it...) and his unhealthy relationship with a vintage space hopper... A bit self-consciously bleak at times, Monkey Dust remains one of the best British animations to make it onto our televisions in years.
