A nameless warrior presents himself before the emperor with news that he has vanquished all who stood against him. Wary but curious the Emperor listens with increasing disbelief to the soldier's story, but as the epic battles are recounted in flashback it becomes increasingly clear that this was not merely a simple act of service by a servant to his lord. Hero is a stunning piece of moviemaking before you even take the electrifying fight scenes into account, a sumptuous feast for the eyes that once again confirms that the Chinese make just about the most beautiful films in contemporary cinema.
