YOU WERE NEVER LOVELIER (1942)
WILLIAM A SEITER
Plot
A lavish Hollywood remake of "The Gay Senorita", this 1942 musical (scored by Jerome Kern) marked the second and, unfortunately, last partnering of Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth. Set in Buenos Aires we follow the romance between an out of favour dancer and a wealthy young Argentinean debutante, much to the disapproval of her wary father. Song and dance routines include Chiu Chiu, Dearly Beloved, Audition Dance, I'm Old Fashioned, The Shorty George, Wedding In The Spring, You Were Never Lovelier and These Orchids. A breathless classic.
