Mr Sugiyama is a painfully awkward middle-aged accountant whose life is oblivious to the concept of spontaneity until the day he spots a beautiful teacher in the window of a ballroom dancing school. Smitten by the woman Sugiyama enrols in classes, but to his horror gets a considerably older and highly eccentric lady as his teacher. Shall We Dance is a delightful tale; funny, touching and love affirming. With the recent success of the American 'J-Lo' adaptation it would seem that the release of this, the acclaimed Japanese original, is extremely well timed.
