School teacher Philipp is gay, but unfortunately this is East Berlin before the fall of the wall and for the sake of an easy life he rejects his natural inclinations and moves in with a girlfriend. You are what you are however and soon Philipp has become infatuated again, only this time he has the courage of his convictions. Coming Out is a landmark in modern East German cinema, dealing as it does with homosexuality in an honest, positive and shamelessly erotic manner.
