With this unsparing depiction of a couple in turmoil, Odoul proves himself once more a leading light of French contemporary cinema. Set in three different places and times, from 1968 to 1973, and casting model-turned-actress Laetitia Casta as the embattled wife of an alcoholic philanderer. This chamber-piece has all the intensity, the unsettling power of his previous films; indeed, this is at times a discomfortingly truthful study of two people whose love cannot stop them from tearing each other apart.
