Plot

Set in Victorian England, Sally Lockhart's father has recently died and feeling suffocated living with her elderly aunt she decides to move in with newfound friends, a photographer and his sister; but all is not as it seems and when Sally receives an anonymous note she embarks on a mysterious quest rooted in events that occurred long ago when she lived with her father in India. Ruby In The Smoke is a sumptuous and enjoyable slice of period hokum.
