Plot

A young boy, Simon, lives with his loving but self absorbed and fragile mother, a gifted puppeteer. Into their world arrives Song, a bright, sane, wise Taiwanese film student who helps care for Simon. I'd like to say there is more, but I just couldn't find it, HouHsiao Hsien's dramatic homage to Albert Lamorisse's "The Red Balloon" is nicely created and acted, but doomed as I am to being a cinematic heathen, its art house credentials left me at best frustrated.
