Wrongfully imprisoned piano prodigy Jenny is a barely suppressed body of uncontrollable rage locked in a constant battle with those around her. The arrival of Traude, a professional musician, provides Jenny with the opportunity to finally make a show of her gift and, while their teacher-pupil relationship is predictably volatile, a chance to reach the finals of a national competition may give her the four minutes she needs to win her freedom. 'Four Minutes' is an excellently performed and unflinching drama and a fine example of the re-emergence of intelligent, populist German cinema.
