EDEN LAKE (2007)
JAMES WATKINS
Plot
Hailed as 'the best British horror film in years', Eden Lake is fated to disappoint and it truly delivers. The premise surrounds a young couple - Jenny and Steve - who, taking a break from their presumably hectic city lives, are hoping for a romantic weekend away in a peaceful and secluded setting: Eden Lake. However, things turn nasty when a group of local kids begin to taunt and steal from them. This escalates to a level where the kids kidnap and torture Steve and mercilessly hunt Jenny. Boasting that its surprising and shocking climax crosses territory most films wouldn't dare really begs the question; why don't they? The answer of course is because this new territory is uninspired, unconvincing and utterly inconsequential.
