ME AND ORSON WELLES (2008)
RICHARD LINKLATER
Plot
1937; on a trip to New York young thespian wannabee Richard comes across the Mercury theatre and the young Orson Welles and Richard is immediately cast in the role of Lucius in Welles' forthcoming mould-breaking Broadway production of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. 'Me and Orson Welles' charts Richard's progress through love and rehearsals and onto the opening night. This maybe a fictional account of part of Welles' life, ie not blandly marketed as biopic material, but Christian McKay's interpretation of the megalomaniac is top notch. An atmospheric and light hearted romantic drama that cleverly keys into the birth of Orson Welles the legend.
