THIS IS WAR (2010)
KRISTIAN FRAGA
Plot
From previous wars we've had poetry. books, diaries and consequential films, but never before a movie edited from home video shot by a soldier. US Marine artillery officer Scotti has done something unique in this video diary of the sea voyage out, the base camp in Kuwait, the long drive up to Baghdad, liberation and the consequent collapse into anarchy, and Scotti even manages to keep the camera running during firefights. Clips from the news media are interposed to keep us up to date with the overall picture. Although there is no analysis, this is pure voyeurism, the changing emotions of the author are clear to us. Caveat; there are lots of grisly passing shots of mutilated bodies.
