127 HOURS (2010)
DANNY BOYLE
Plot
Aron Ralston is an adrenalin junkie, and as any self respecting pleasurer of the oh, thats a bit extreme!, hes full on tearing it through Utah's Canyonlands National Park when one leap too far leaves his arm pinioned by a bolder in a barren crevasse. Based on a true story this is the remarkable account of Ralstons cocky, hopeful, desperate, hallucinatory and determined desire to survive. A superb performance by Franco (and a cracking soundtrack) help pull this minimalist film through; tight, atmospheric and surprisingly punchy, this is a nice swerve from Danny Boyles previous movie Slumdog Millionaire. 127 Hours was nominated for 3 Golden Globe Awards, including Best Actor, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score, 9 British Academy Film Awards, including Outstanding British Film, Best Direction, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Film Music, 6 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Original Song and Best Film Editing and 8 Broadcast Film Critics Awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Song and Best Sound, with its main theme song "If I Rise" winning the Critics Choice award for Best Song.
