THE WELL-DIGGER'S DAUGHTER (2011)
DANIEL AUTEUIL
Cast
Plot
A father, in pre-World War I France, is torn between his sense of honor and his deep love for his saintly daughter when she gets in trouble with the wealthy son of a shopkeeper. A favourite of many for his work in front of the camera, Daniel Auteuil crosses the line assuredly, adapting and directing the film with great skill. It's a welcome addition to the body of Marcel Pagnol adaptations, which include Le Château de Ma Mère, La Gloire de Mon Père, Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources (which the young Auteuil excelled in). Highly recommended.
