Irene Ravelli and her aunt, Eleonora, are ruthless business partners who have inherited an Italian real-estate empire. As Irene makes plans to turn her family's historic palazzo in Rome into an apartment complex, she is moved by thoughts of her late mother, and a homeless 12-year-old named Beni, to help those less fortunate. With the aid of Father Carras, the woman undergoes a complete life transformation.
