THE MAYOR OF CASTERBRIDGE (PART 2) (1978)
DAVID GILES
Plot
Part Two of the BBC's faithful adaptation of the classic Hardy novel shot amongst the rustic charm of his beloved Wessex. Michael Henchard is a tortured man, now a successful merchant, who was once not so fortunate and in a moment of drunken madness sold his young wife and daughter. Fate however has apparently provided Henchard with a chance for redemption when his wife returns many years later. Unfortunately the poor man is the central character in a Thomas Hardy novel, and as sure as the sun burns hotter than hell, so life for almost every poor creature that enters this tragic tale will blossom into some form of ruination.
