Husband and wife Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman star in this sugar-sweet tale about an Irish tenant farmer who plans to avenge the injustice of his father's death at the hands of an unscrupulous landowner, but falls for the intended victim's daughter instead. She persuades him to travel to America, as her servant-companion, where he makes good as a bare-knuckle boxer and she sweats it out in a chicken-plucking factory, before they head off west to grab a piece of land. A film of two halves which picks up discernibly on their arrival in America. Light confection and easy watching.
