TOKYO STORY (1953)
YASUJIRO OZU
Plot
As the last part of Ozu's profoundly moving Noriko Trilogy, Tokyo Story is widely regarded as the masterpiece. Here, Ozu gives us an intimate study of a displaced Japanese family who have arrived in Tokyo from the country. The elderly parents come to visit their busy and preoccupied kids in Tokyo, and are upset at their seemingly uncaring reception. Incredible detail, superbly acted. Halliwell's 'Greatest Film Of All Time' and aptly commented on in Wim Wenders' 'Tokyo-Ga'.
