AMERICA AMERICA (1963)
ELIA KAZAN
Plot
Kazan's highly acclaimed account of an impoverished young Greek, living in turn of the century Turkey, his dream of emigrating to the USA, and his eventual trip, via Constantinople, to New York. Kazan's screenplay, based on the life of his uncle, is a moving and deep portrayal of the hardship, suffering, and prejudice faced by immigrants arriving on Ellis Island at the turn of the century. Brilliant cinematography and lots of interesting minor characters.
