SHOOT THE PIANIST (1960)
FRANCOIS TRUFFAUT
Cast
Plot
A seminal nouvelle vogue film; Truffaut captures a real mood of tragicomedy in a tale of a mysterious pianist whose past catches up with him. One of his brothers, a crook named Chico, takes refuge in a bar, where co-worker Lena is in love with him, because he is chased by two gangsters, Momo and Ernest. The pianist, an ex-virtuoso who gave up after his wife's suicide, now has to deal wih Chico, Ernest, Momo, Fido (his co-domicile younger brother) and Lena. Aznavour is superb, as the central character, and Truffaut masterfully combines noir twists, spoofish humour and homage to the Hollywood gangster genre.
