Apart from predicting political and social upheavals for the next 400 years, Nostradamus, 16th Century visionary and scholar, found time to indulge in amorous liaisons and upset the authorities. He was a man tormented by dreams and drug-fuelled visions, frustrated by the ignorance of his fellow medical practitioners and persecuted by religious zealots.
