Sandrine Veysset's directorial debut is a pretty grim affair. A nameless, understandably morose-looking woman toils day in, day out on a shabby-looking farm in France, helped by her seven illegitimate children, whose father owns the farm but lives at a much nicer one nearby with his wife and other children. An awful lot of vegetable digging goes on until, during one particularly depressing Christmas, Mum decides she can take no more. A not so idyllic rural life-style.
