Re-released after donkeys' years on the "video nasties" list, it's difficult now to see what all the fuss was about. A doctor of some description moves his wife and young son to a creepy old New England house, planning to investigate the scientific work the previous occupant left behind. Little Johnny has psychic powers which warn him that dark forces are at work, but it's a bit late by then, because the Horrible Thing in the cellar has already been unleashed. A curious mixture of genuinely creepy atmosphere and comic book violence, but hardly likely to subvert anybody.
