Bleak British thriller from the director of "Jude". Ex-convict Martin (Nivola) returns home to an English seaside town in pursuit of his ex-lover Helen (Weisz), a hairdresser plagued by disturbing memories. While Martin tries to worm his way back into her life, Rachel has inexplicably taken up with an oddball teenage pervert. The pair obviously share a Deep Dark Secret, but the film's irritatingly contrived weirdness is so tiresome that, frankly, you really don't care what it is. There's such a thing as trying too hard, and this is is a case in point.
