Bittersweet drama with Motown legend Diana Ross as single-minded singing sensation Olivia, whose superstardom has come at a price. Having abandoned her baby daughter, 18 years previously, in pursuit of fame, she decides it's time to make amends and goes in search of the now adult Kayla, who herself dreams of a singing career. Using her unrivalled contacts, Olivia soon sets her daughter on the road to stardom, but their new-found relationship is threatened when Kayla's success threatens to overshadow her mother's.
