ROMANCE (2007)
CATHERINE BREILLAT
Plot
Marie is a dyslexic schoolteacher whose (gay?) male model boyfriend no longer wants to have sex. While resolving to carry on loving him, Marie relieves her sexual needs through other men. Soon the commonplace is not enough and Marie turns to sado-masochism in order to fulfil her sexual desires. Written and directed by Catherine Breillat, this is an intelligent and observant study of female sexual desires which, despite its provocative agenda and depictions of penetrative sex, was passed uncut by the BBFC.
