Frances O'Connor plays Emma Bovary, trapped in a dull and loveless marriage to a provincial doctor, who embarks on a series of illicit affairs. She finds that her glamorous new lifestyle requires funds beyond her reach, and consequently runs up huge debts with a treacherous local tradesman. Soon it seems that Emma's quest for fulfillment will lead to her downfall, unless her beauty and ambition can save her. A meticulously authentic production.
