RHAPSODY IN AUGUST (1991)
AKIRA KUROSAWA
Plot
Kurosawa's examination of the nuclear holocaust in Nagasaki is shown through the eyes of an elderly survivor and her four young grandchildren. Forty four years after the destruction, the grandmother recounts the history of her family and of Japanese society, but as she searches for an understanding of the past she's overcome with grief for her dead husband. Eloquent and moving.
