Not so much a sequel as a remake of Brian De Palma's 70s classic chiller, despite repeated references to the "first" Carrie. And the question has to be asked; why? Whereas Sissy Spacek's portrayal of the telekinetic teenager delivered a certain ethereal vulnerability, Emily Bergl plays the school outcast as an irritating wannabe goth whose surly demeanour sends furniture flying. At least the movie's most unpleasant characters, such as the meat-headed jocks who're endearingly engaged in a wager on who can shag the ugliest bird, get their just desserts in the blood-spattered climax, but this is still inferior fare on every level.
