Plot

Masao is a nine year old boy, who yearns to be reunited with his long lost mother, and Kikujiro is a small time gangster who has never thought of anyone but himself. These two unlikely companions begin a long journey, a series of experiences and meetings with strangers that turn them from fellow travellers to firm friends, and introduces Kikujiro to the, hitherto unknown, experience of caring for someone other than himself, while providing Masao with a journey he will never forget. Kikujiro is a perceptive, witty, and completely enthralling tale.
