OPENING NIGHT (1977)
JOHN CASSAVETES
Plot
An actress witnesses the death of a young fan and this tragic event makes her aware of how her own life is beginning to reflect her fictional role, that is playing a lady dealing with the emotional crises of ageing. To add to the intrigue you're never quite sure whether the actors are being real or not, whether on the stage, rehearsing or being themselves. 'Opening Night' is a John Cassavetes film, the man whom many believe paved the way for contemporary independent American cinema - an intriguing and original tour de force.
