The enigmatic Dr Vogler is a charlatan magician, on the run from debts and charges of blasphemy, who runs "Vogler's Magnetic Health Theatre". When his travelling show arrives in town, the police commissioner, a civil servant and, especially, the cynical rationalist Dr Vergerus conspire to put his supernatural powers to the test and expose him as the fraud that he is. Mocked and enraged by his hosts Dr Vogler enacts the ultimate revenge during the grand finale of his ‘performance sensation'. Sensational.
